attitude adjustment reading with The Cinderella Deck

I found this great tarot spread on Street Light Tarot. It's called Attitude Adjustment and it's for when you know you have a bad attitude about something and need to change it. It's particularly for situations where life has thrown you a curve and the events are out of your control.

It seemed perfect for my concerns about my relationship in light of my boyfriend moving 12 hours away for his new job. I'm excited and happy for him but sad at the same time -- mostly because I'm really not good at long-distance relationships. To be honest, I'm not sure I believe there will be a future for us. I guess I could use an attitude adjustment. The Cinderella Deck seemed perfect since it's great for relationship readings.

Card 1: Current attitude toward situation
In this card, one of the stepsisters is about to try on the glass slipper. She knows it can't possibly fit because it's not her shoe. In this position, this card seems to tell me that I'm doubtful about having a long-distance relationship and don't think this new set up is a good fit for our future together.

Card 2: Future challenges regarding situation
In Card 5, a messenger brings an invitation to the ball. My boyfriend and I loved to do many of the same activities. Going out frequently with him kept me from isolating myself like the hermit that I am. I will be challenged to get out and find some new activities and friends to socialize with.

Card 3: Future benefits/blessings regarding situation
Card 29 is the best card in the deck because it shows Cinderella's dreams coming true in the form of marriage to the prince. This is a  possible future benefit for us too....marriage or a stronger commitment in the relationship.

Card 4: Attitude to adopt
Cinderella sits quietly by the fire after a long, hard day of chores. She is content just to be able to rest at the end of the day. At this point in the story, she doesn't know the full potential of what her life could be so she's not wanting or desiring. She's just focused on her day to day tasks and enjoys the little reprieve at day's end. Like Cinderella, I must adopt an attitude of patient waiting and take one day at a time. This is wise but not the approach I would usually take. I'm usually so focused on the future and what I imagine it to be that I mess up what's happening in the present.

Card 5: Advice
Cinderella has spoken up for herself and asked to try on the glass slipper but her stepsisters find this funny and they laugh and point and criticize her. In this card, I'm Cinderella and I'm standing up to my stepsisters (negative self-talk) and my right to make my dreams come true (marry the prince). As advice, this card says that this path might be difficult, but I should not give in to negative self-talk and a self-defeating attitude.

will i ever get married?

Here is a sample 3-card reading using The Cinderella Deck.

Will I ever get married?

Here are the cards chosen.

We notice right away that Cinderella is in three different outfits. In the first, she's in rags. In the second card, she's wearing a silk gown. And in the third card, she wears a wedding dress. This shows your progression from where you are now (mentally in rags) to where you will be (married!)

Card 12 shows Cinderella and the fairy godmother trying to turn the rats into stylish footmen for the carriage. Cinderella seems to be admonishing them to behave. This card shows where you are now. Perhaps you're wondering if you can turn a rat into a gentleman. Do you have  a particular person in mind or do you believe that all men are rats?

Card 16 reveals the real issue or problem. This may reflect what holds you back from getting married. Cinderella is at the ball and is flirting and playing a cat and mouse game with the Prince. They are not really connecting with each other. In light of the first card, this card can relate to cheating and infidelity. Perhaps you've experienced this in a previous relationship and now you are keeping your distance.

The final card, Card 29, reveals the outcome. It shows you (Cinderella) and your Prince Charming entering the castle (your own home) together as husband and wife. This reading doesn't give an obvious path to achieving this goal, however, I think we can look at the numerical theme for more insight. The numerical theme of the reading is 3. This suggests that you are ready to expand your horizons, meet new people, and start dating. Get rid of those rags (negative mindset), stop trying to turn rats into gentlemen, put on some silk gowns (build up confidence), find someone you can really connect with and stop playing games. That's how you'll find your Prince Charming.

re-introducing The Cinderella Deck

With my last shipment from Printerstudio.com, I received an update to a deck I've been working on since 2013 -- The Cinderella Deck. Here are two sample readings from my old blog:

What is the current situation between he and I?
What's on my romantic horizon?

This deck has gone through many configurations and it's become one of my favorites. It's finally ready!

This is a great deck for relationship readings, especially if you're looking for your Prince Charming or trying to manifest a happy ending in your romance. But I've discovered that it can help you see where you are in the story of manifesting anything in your life.

Understanding the Deck

There are very few characters in the deck: Cinderella, the Prince, the Stepsisters, and the Prince's messenger. Here's how I use the different characters.

You (or the questioner/subject of the reading) are represented by Cinderella.

The prince reflects the ideal or goal (getting married, finding a significant other, getting a promotion, finding a new job).

The ugly sisters reflect your shadow. This may take the form of negative self-talk or other people who are throwing shade your way.

The fairy godmother represents your Higher Self giving you a pep talk. She is positive inner guidance that can turn your life around.

The prince’s squire serves as a messenger that news is coming or a change is approaching. This is an external shift while the fairy godmother shows an internal shift.

In the beginning of the story, Cinderella is in rags which shows your initial state of mind (unaware of your beauty and power; poverty mindset; not believing you can attain your goal). She accepts this disguise as real, not seeing her true self as a Princess. When the fairy godmother changes her rags to a beautiful gown, this transformation can reflect a real transformation in your life that catapults you toward your ideal.

A Sample Reading

I gave one of my local friends The Cinderella Deck in beta testing mode over a year ago. She's becoming an expert in it. Occasionally, she wants some advice on the cards, though. She texted me this reading with the question, "What will happen to R and I after I move?"

She didn't cast this in a spread, just pulled 6 cards in this pattern. Since I know the backstory of her relationship with R, I could see how the cards were depicting her romance and where she was now. The top row seems to depict the past. The last card in this row (22) shows where she is at the time of the reading. The bottom row shows where things are headed. I'm not reading these as a typical 3-card reading because this wasn't the intention she had when she created the reading.

Here's how I would read the cards.

The top row shows a broken spell -- the magic of the relationship has worn off (20). But this leads to newfound confidence (14) and an eventual proclamation of love or intent (22). This summarizes the last 6 months of her relationship. She and R stopped seeing each other for a while. It seemed she had given up on hopes of the relationship meeting her needs and had gotten on with her life. She realized that since there was nothing holding her here, she decided to move closer to her family in another state. After a few months of little to no contact, R came back in her life again before she moved. He finally proclaimed his feelings and intentions for their relationship.

Now, she has moved and their relationship seems stronger than ever. The bottom row picks up from here with her question about how they will move forward. Card 25 shows Cinderella asking if she can try on the slipper. This could mean that if the relationship is going to move toward a greater commitment, she's going to have to ask for the change to happen. Card 29 is the final card showing Cinderella and her Prince moving into the castle together to live happily ever after. This is a card showing marriage, living together, or some such arrangement. The story is supposed to end here but there's one more card in the reading taking us backward in the story. Card 19 shows Cinderella running away from the Prince.  I told my friend that I interpret this as getting what you want and then running away from it. But this card also appears when plans are made and then aborted. So, perhaps plans to move in together or get married are made but there isn't the follow through that's anticipated. For now, they are having a long-distance relationship and we'll see where things go.

I've decided to use the numerical theme with this deck. If we add up all the numbers of the cards we get 129 = 1 + 2 + 9 = 12 = 1 + 2 = 3. This theme is all about expanding your horizons which is what my friend did by moving away from her boyfriend. The numerical theme doesn't predict the future although it can shed light on the real question and the way things might progress. Based on this theme the ending card makes more sense. The nature of the three is about meeting new people, doing new things and, in many cases, leaving the old behind.
