Have you ever thought of creating your own oracle deck? Have you been tossing ideas around but don't know where to begin? Would it be helpful to follow prompts and join a community of folks who are also creating an oracle deck?

Create This Oracle Deck challenge is back again this March! Last year we had a blast creating our own oracle decks. Check out over 2,000 posts from last year's challenge HERE.

THE CHALLENGE
I realize there is a bit of creative paralysis that interferes with ART-ing sometimes so I've developed a challenge to get past that obstacle. It's called #createthisoracledeck challenge and it runs during March on Instagram. It's a way to create a unique, personal oracle your way. I hope it will also help you understand how to translate a symbol into meaning. For some of you, this might be the first step to creating an oracle deck you're ready to share with the world.

In fact, there are several decks now published and available to the public that began with last year's challenge.

Inner Queen Oracle @leti.lluna

Dark Moon Damsel Oracle @mothsandscorpions

Untamed Truth Oracle @treetalker

Inner Landscape Oracle @tarotapprentice

I've been developing my own system for doing past life readings for a number of years using playing cards and just recently added a tarot and oracle card component to the material too. It creates a more holistic and in-depth method of understanding a past life.

In the class, I show you how to:

use the playing cards to get specific details about the life and death

use the tarot for a visual life review

use oracle cards for a soul experience summary

Whether you believe in past lives or not, I feel that past life readings are helpful in unearthing and shining a light on deep-seated problems and issues in your current life. They help you see the thread connecting these issues and allow you to unravel the problem. In many cases, I've had a strong emotional response to my own past life readings done simply with playing cards. The additional layers of tarot and oracle cards has created even more powerful emotional shifts. I've also included a past life meditation to give you a more visceral connection to the past life experience and change the vibration of that experience.

This class will allow you to:

Get a detailed physical description of your past life counterpart

Identify past life complexes affecting you today

Discover your past life identity and death

Create a life review through tarot images

Know your soul purpose in this lifetime

Learn how to release past life residue

Receive a message from Spirit to guide you forward

A detailed reference manual, handy charts and a journaling worksheet are also included.
It's a 60-card tarot-size oracle deck called Pep Talk. It features encouraging phrases & silly faces I drew myself. I made it because sometimes you need a pep talk and there's no one around to give you one. This deck solves that problem.

<div style="color: #47505e; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.7; margin-bottom: 1.3em; padding: 0px 40px;">

It's a challenge designed to help you understand and interpret my Haiku Oracle cards. You'll create 30 poems based on the 30 prompts for the month of April (which is also National Poetry Month). Feel free to use one, two, three or more cards for your poems.

For most of the prompts you can pull cards at random for a divinatory poem. The prompts that begin, "Create a poem..." are asking you to create a face up poem. However, you can create your poems any way you choose.

I hope you'll join this challenge. We'll be posting our cards and poems using hashtag #haikuoraclechallenge. If you don't have the cards yet, you can just make up poems, or use some of the fun poetry magnets or poetry dice games available. Learn to work with the Haiku Oracle in my new course, Haiku Oracle: Digging Deep With Divination & Poetry.

Pull, Pen, Paint is a 30-day online course that begins TODAY! It's full of intuition, imagination, and imagery, taught by 12 fabulous instructors. You can sign up now at the early bird rate of only $70 until March 5. After that, the course will be $85.

Here's an overview from the course website:

In this 30 day course we will share our methods of using tarot and oracle cards to elevate our personal journaling, spiritual, and creative practices. The cards are creative and intuitive tools that when used intentionally can lead to deeper insights into who we've been, who we are, and who we can become.

This is a basic course for all levels and types of journalers. The course is designed with three kinds of journal keepers in mind: those who keep an analog or digital written journal, those who art journal, and those who blend words and images to create a visual journal. And it doesn't matter if you've never used a tarot or oracle deck before, there will be plenty of opportunity to explore online and we will included a lesson on creating your own personal oracle deck.

While we will primarily use Tarot and Oracle cards in this course, we will also touch on, and incorporate, other intuitive guidance systems (astrology, numerology, crystals, chakras, etc.).

Hope to see you in class!
Have you ever thought of creating your own oracle deck? Of course you have! I know because I get questions about this ALL. THE. TIME. I've even written an entire article about my process of creating decks which you can find as a guest blog post here on Little Red Tarot: http://littleredtarot.com/how-to-make-your-own-tarot-or-oracle-deck/

THE CHALLENGE
One of the things that always surprises me is how super artistic people seem stuck in terms of creating an oracle deck. I'm talking about YOU!! I've seen your drawings and doodles on Instagram. They're awesome. Just put them onto cards and you have an oracle deck!

This will be done Wreck This Journal style (I'm referring to series of journaling books by Keri Smith) with a prompt for each card. Join in by following the daily prompts to create your own personal oracle deck. You can draw, collage, or use apps to create your deck. We'll do a total of 30 cards.

WHAT YOU NEED
✨Cardstock, blank cards, index cards, etc. You can find blank card decks on amazon and makeplayingcards.com
✨Pencils & non-bleed pens and markers for drawing (rubber stamping is also a great idea)
✨Magazines, stickers, scissors and glue stick for collage
✨Apps like Tayasui Sketches, ArtStudio, to make digital drawings

*Remember that using watercolors or too much glue will curl your blank cards or index cards and they will be difficult to shuffle.

The intention of this challenge is to create a usable oracle deck without getting hung up on the details. That's why there are prompts and a time limitation of one day per card. If it's taking you more than a day to do each card, you're doing too much. If you're getting stuck in a perfection rut, repeat this mantra: "It doesn't have to be perfect. I have plenty of great ideas and unlimited opportunities to create."

Feel free to make your deck as simple or complex as you like. It's not about the art. I mean, seriously, have you seen my drawings??? It's about creating a unique tool that reflects you + having fun. The prompts are deceptively simple. But they reflect a variety of symbolic systems such as numerology, dreamwork, inner child work, totem animals, and more. I'll also be sharing spreads throughout the month to use with your deck.

We'll also be creating a guidebook to accompany your deck. It will include your personal symbols and interpretations of the prompts. You can use a plain composition notebook or sketch pad. Some of you may want to take an art journaling or mind mapping approach to it. My guidebook is purposely more decorative than my deck and I've recreated my simple line drawings. But this isn't necessary for your guidebook.
WHEN WE BEGIN
March 1, 2017. A list of prompts will be posted on Instagram and here on the blog at the end of February.

After completion of the challenge, I plan to assemble a playbook with the challenge steps, prompts, spreads, and hopefully some of your photos for inspiration. It will be available as a free guide here on my blog.

Monday, January 23, 2017 ~ Pathworking Meditation

For this pathworking meditation, we're seeing where we are right now at the end of this challenge. Take a few moments to review the cards you've chosen for the various prompts. Pose the question, What path am I on now? and pull one card face down at random. Then imagine that you’re stepping into the card and onto the path. Gaze at the card imagery and consider these questions:

What kind of path are you walking on? Does it seem pleasant or unpleasant? If the path is pleasant to you it suggests you’re currently going through a pleasant experience. If unpleasant, you’re dealing with difficulties.

What’s at your feet? Is the ground difficult to walk on? What’s at your feet reflects your foundation. Is it a smooth and solid foundation, or are you on shaky ground?

What’s directly in front of you? What’s directly in front of you is a symbol of what you’re currently facing (dealing with) in your current environment.

Are you traveling alone or with others? How do you feel about that? If you’re traveling with others it suggests your concerns involve other people.

Where are you headed? Why? Where you’re headed reveals your life direction. It gives some insight into the near future. Why explains the purpose of this path or journey. It gives you a sense of the big picture.

Based on this path, how long do you think it will take to get there? This reflects the timing of where you’re headed.

Are there any obstacles on this path? If so, how can they be removed? A key question. This helps you understand what barriers prevent your progress. These obstacles are also prolonging your journey and may delay you in reaching your goals.

What's beyond what you can see on this path? This points to the future beyond what you expect. This response represents the final or outcome card in a reading. The distant future. It also shows what you’re expecting or what’s hidden from you (potential, fears, hopes).

How does this path compare/contrast to the first pathworking card at the beginning of the challenge? What similarities and differences do you notice? What do you think they mean?

Some of you may actually go into a dream-like state during this journey while others will be able to use your imagination to come up with the answers. If you're able to, journal your responses to these questions as you do the pathworking meditation, and include as much as you can about your feelings, what you notice about the path, and any memories or experiences it brings up. You can also just experience the pathworking and journal later.

Thursday, January 26, 2017 ~ Choices and Options Spread

Think of two choices or options related to your life right now. Focus on your options and choose one card to represent each option.

Based solely on the card imagery, which option seems like the better choice? Why?

What do you learn about each option that you hadn't considered before?

Friday, January 27, 2017 ~ The Road Ahead

This is our chance to do one final pathworking meditation about the road ahead or next few months.

Pose the question, What path represents the road ahead? and pull one card face down at random. Then imagine that you’re stepping into the card and onto the path. Gaze at the card imagery and consider these questions:

What type of journey will you encounter in the next few months? Pleasant, struggle, obstacles?

Contrast this path to the one performed earlier this week and the one performed the first week of the challenge. How are they similar? Different?

Here's what we're covering in Week 3 of the 2017 Life Path Challenge (#lifepathchallenge2017) in case you'd like to get a head start in working with your Life Path cards for next week. Get out your journal as you're going to want to write your insights so you can look them over at the end of the month for any special revelations.

This week, we're exploring your life's work/career. I'll be sharing my insights on the photos below through my Instagram feed (@otmoraclecards) each day in January.

Monday, January 16, 2017 ~ Pathworking Meditation on Life's Work

For this pathworking meditation, focus on what you would consider your current life's work or career. Basically, whatever it is that you put yourself into on a daily basis that brings you some sort of value, in the form of gratitude, sense of purpose, security, money, etc. Pose the question, What path am I on in this career or life's work? and pull one card face down at random. Then imagine that you’re stepping into the card and onto the path. Gaze at the card imagery and consider these questions:

What kind of path are you walking on? Does it seem pleasant or unpleasant? If the path is pleasant to you it suggests you’re currently going through a pleasant experience in this career. If unpleasant, you’re dealing with difficulties.

What’s at your feet? Is the ground difficult to walk on? What’s at your feet reflects your foundation. Is it a smooth and solid foundation, or are you on shaky ground? What kind of career foundation exists?

What’s directly in front of you? What’s directly in front of you is a symbol of what you’re currently facing (dealing with) in your career.

Are you traveling alone or with others? How do you feel about that? Since this is a career pathworking, traveling with others is usually a sign of working with others or a reflection of your clients. What type of connecting is happening between the people in the card?

Where are you headed? Why? Where you’re headed reveals your career direction. It gives some insight into the near future. Why explains the purpose of this path or journey. It gives you a sense of the big picture of this life's work and its purpose.

Based on this path, how long do you think it will take to get there? This reflects the timing of where you’re headed.

Are there any obstacles on this path? If so, how can they be removed? A key question. This helps you understand what barriers prevent progress and connection in your career. These obstacles are also prolonging your journey and may delay you in reaching your career goals.

What's beyond what you can see on this path? This points to the future beyond what you expect. This response represents the final or outcome card in a reading. The distant future. It also shows what you’re expecting or what’s hidden from you (potential, fears, hopes).

Tuesday, January 17, 2017 ~ Obvious Path

Shuffle and pull a card at random to reflect the obvious path in your career.

Describe this path and how you feel walking it.

What is the most challenging aspect of this path?

What is the most positive aspect of this path?

This card reveals your expectations about your career or life's work and where you believe it's taking you.

Wednesday, January 18, 2017 ~ Hidden Path

Shuffle and pull a card at random to reflect the hidden path in this life's work.

How is this path different from the Obvious Path?

What is the most challenging aspect of this path?

What is the most positive aspect of this path?

The hidden path is the one that you're not seeing. Maybe you believe your career is taking you to greater financial freedom but you pull a Life Path Card that shows restrictions and confinement. Or perhaps you feel you're in a dead-end job but this Life Path Card shows you're in a spacious garden.

Thursday, January 19, 2017 ~ Choices and Options Spread

Think of two choices or options related to your life's work. For example, maybe you have an offer for a job in a new state and you're wondering if you should take it or stay put. Or perhaps you've been thinking it's time to start your own business, but should you do it now or wait until later. Focus on your options and choose one card to represent each option.

Friday, January 20, 2017 ~ Vision Board: Life's Work

A vision board is a place where you display photos and images that reflect a specific goal you’d like to attain. It helps identify your vision and gives it clarity. When displayed where you can see it frequently, the vision board will keep your attention on your intentions. The goal of this exercise is to use the card as a mini vision board to help you reach your relationship goal.

The first step is to come up with a goal or desire you wish to attain this year in terms of your career or life's work. Perhaps your goal is to build your business or get a promotion. Next, shuffle your deck focusing on the question: What card represents the path to my career goal? Select a card at random from the deck. This card represents the path to your goal.

What are your first impressions of this path to your goal? Doable or daunting?

Is your goal attainable? Sometimes your goal is attainable and sometimes it’s not. If you receive a card that shows a major obstacle on the path or some type of dead end, ask yourself what this obstacle might represent in your career.

What type of journey? Pleasant, struggle, obstacles? What will you need to experience in order to reach your goal? Are there obstacles in your path?

How long will it take to attain your goal? Look at the card to give you a rough estimate of how long it might take to reach your goal. If the path looks very short, then your goal may be within reach. If the path looks long or the card shows a desolate area, then it may take some time to reach your goal.

Use the card as your vision board. Look at it every day and imagine taking steps along the path to reach your goal. If the path is daunting, imagine that you’re easily overcoming the obstacles (jumping over rocks, or wading slowly but surely through mud, for example). You can also add angel cards or other oracle decks to your layout that will provide guidance or inspiration. Photograph the card or layout and save it as a screensaver or wallpaper so you will have a constant reminder of where you wish to be and how to get there.

Monday, January 9, 2017 ~ Pathworking Meditation on Relationships

For this pathworking meditation, choose an interpersonal relationship you'd like to focus on. This might be a relationship with your partner, parent, child, co-worker, etc. Pose the question, What path am I on in this relationship? OR What path are we on together in this relationship? and pull one card face down at random. Then imagine that you’re stepping into the card and onto the path. Gaze at the card imagery and consider these questions:

What kind of path are you walking on? Does it seem pleasant or unpleasant? If the path is pleasant to you it suggests you’re currently going through a pleasant experience in this relationship. If unpleasant, you’re dealing with difficulties in the relationship.

What’s at your feet? Is the ground difficult to walk on? What’s at your feet reflects your foundation. Is it a smooth and solid foundation, or are you on shaky ground? What kind of foundation is the relationship on?

What’s directly in front of you? What’s directly in front of you is a symbol of what you’re currently facing (dealing with) in your relationship.

Are you traveling alone or with others? How do you feel about that? Since this is a relationship pathworking, traveling with others is usually a positive sign that you're connecting on some level with your partner and not feeling as if you're in it all by yourself. What type of connecting is happening between the people in the card?

Where are you headed? Why? Where you’re headed reveals your relationship direction. It gives some insight into the near future. Why explains the purpose of this path or journey. It gives you a sense of the big picture of this relationship and its purpose.

Based on this path, how long do you think it will take to get there? This reflects the timing of where you’re headed.

Are there any obstacles on this path? If so, how can they be removed? A key question. This helps you understand what barriers prevent progress and connection in your relationship. These obstacles are also prolonging your journey and may delay you in reaching your relationship goals.

What's beyond what you can see on this path? This points to the future beyond what you expect. This response represents the final or outcome card in a reading. The distant future. It also shows what you’re expecting or what’s hidden from you (potential, fears, hopes).

Tuesday, January 10, 2017 ~ The High Road

Shuffle and pull a card at random to reflect the easy path in this relationship. Look at the card from the perspective of walking it.

What's easy about walking this path?

Are there few obstacles in the way?

Is it a short path to your destination?

Can you take a vehicle to get where you're going?

This card shows you what's easy in your relationship and will hopefully give you a surprising new view of it.

Wednesday, January 11, 2017 ~ The Low Road

Shuffle and pull a card at random to reflect the difficult path in this relationship. Look at the card from the perspective of walking it.

What's difficult about walking this path?

Is it uphill?

A difficult surface to tread?

Many obstacles in the way?

Limited visibility?

This card shows you what's difficult in your relationship or where you're having trouble making adjustments.

Thursday, January 12, 2017 ~ The Road Not Taken

Shuffle and pull a card at random to reflect what hasn't been tried yet in this relationship. This card shows a positive approach that may need to be integrated. Contrast this card to The Low Road. How does it offer solutions to the difficult path?

Monday, January 2, 2017 ~ Light & Shadow Exercise

This is a great exercise to help you get to know the deck and understand the light and shadow aspects of your goals and dreams. Go through your deck face up and pull out two cards -- your favorite card (light) and least favorite card (shadow). Make a quick list in your journal about what you like about the favorite card. Then make another list about what you don’t like about the least favorite card. Compare and contrast the two images. How are they different? Are there any similarities?

Tuesday, January 3, 2017 ~ Pathworking Meditation

This is an introduction to the pathworking method I use with these cards. The deck was designed for pathworking or a projective image methodology which allows you to “step into” the card and imagine you are standing on the path. Everything you might encounter on the path becomes a symbol for some aspect of your life. What you see is a reflection of yourself and your life experiences. Some will see a pleasant scene while others looking at the same card will see unpleasantness. This process requires some imagination and intuition to maximize your results with the cards. We'll be using this process each week so you will gain proficiency with it.

Pose the question, What path am I on? and pull one card face down at random.

Here’s a list of symbols you can find in the cards and possible interpretations. Remember that these are just suggestions. Use your own impressions first.

Benches = rest; waiting period.
Bridge = transition.
Darkness = shadow aspects; unconscious issues; fears; challenges.
Desert landscape = emotional dryness -- unable to tap into emotions.
Fog = lack of clarity; unable to see the whole picture.
Garden = growth; creativity; talents.
House = a place of comfort and stability.
Mountain = obstacle; accomplishment; achievement.
Mud = slow process; feeling stuck.
Narrow paths = limitation; lack of variety; staying focused.
Open areas = freedom.
People = other people in your life; society; following the crowd.
Railings = structure.
Rocky paths = difficulties; ups and downs.
Snow = purity; new beginnings; isolation.
Stairs = levels of understanding or knowledge. Specific steps to reach a goal.
Tunnel = Entering a stage of change and transformation.
Urban settings = dealing with pressures of the day to day grind.
Vehicle = drive and energy.
Water = emotions and flow.

Friday, January 6, 2017 ~ Vision Board: New Year's Resolution

A vision board is a place where you display photos and images that reflect a specific goal you’d like to attain. It helps identify your vision and gives it clarity. When displayed where you can see it frequently, the vision board will keep your attention on your intentions. The goal of this exercise is to use the card as a mini vision board to help you reach your New Year's Resolution.

The first step is to come up with a goal or desire you wish to attain this year, your New Year's Resolution. Next, shuffle your deck focusing on the question: What card represents the path to my goal? Select a card at random from the deck. This card represents the path to your goal.

What are your first impressions of this path to your goal? Doable or daunting?

Is your goal attainable? Sometimes your goal is attainable and sometimes it’s not. If you receive a card that shows a major obstacle on the path or some type of dead end, then this might not be the right time to try to attain your specific goal.

To break in my new cards (which you can download for free in the FREEBIES section of this blog), I did a Christmas Tree Spread by Simone Bella from the Tarot Learning Group on Facebook.
My strength and perseverance to overcome life's challenges.

What gift does the Universe grant for you? JINGLE BELLS. The power of my voice to help or heal others.

What gift can you share with others? CHOCOLATE. I'm interpreting this card as pleasure and sensual experiences so not sure I want to share that with too many others lol 😂

What gift can you share with yourself? SNOWFALL. Rest. Peace and quiet. A snow day. Yes please!!!

What new life or new journey is emerging for you? CHURCH. A reconnection with the Divine and the divinity within.

What gives you renewed hope and faith as you enter the new year? CHRISTMAS TREE. That the new year will be a time of rebirth and growth.

This month, I'm doing the very first tarot blog hop hosted by Tarot Rebels Facebook Group. We're focusing on the 13th card of tarot: DEATH.

In my Tarot Everywhere deck, I used an image of an expired parking meter to represent the energies of this card. In case you've never used a parking meter, it's a device used to collect money in exchange for parking for a limited amount of time. Typically, the time limit is 2 hours. If you do something called feeding the meter, that's a no-no. It's when you try to go beyond your time limit which of course isn't fair to others. If you're caught feeding the meter, you could receive a citation or fine. When your time limit is up, the TIME EXPIRED sign appears and it means it's time to move on.

The energy of the Death card is like a parking meter because it simply means that you're putting your energy (coins) into a cycle of experience for a particular time period (time limit), and when that time is over, you move on to the next cycle of experience.

SPREAD
I developed the Parking Meter Spread to demonstrate this pattern.

Time Limit: The purpose and focus of the current cycle of experience.

Insert Coin: What you bring to this cycle of experience in terms of your energy, outlook and actions. Compare this card to the Time Limit card. They should be in sync, showing that your energy matches the focus of the cycle.

Feeding the Meter: Challenges you can expect if you're not in sync with the current cycle.

Time Expired: How to prepare for the next cycle.

SAMPLE READING
Here's my own reading using this spread.

Tarot Everywhere and Oracle Everywhere decks

Time Limit: King of Pentacles. The purpose and focus of this cycle is hard work. This King is a worker, not a delegator. He's out in the fields working all day long and he's happy to do it to provide for his family and community. This card tells me that I need to be working hard to shore up my financial future.

Insert Coin: 6 of Swords. This card depicts sailing across a lake. It has a very different energy than the King of Pentacles. This shows I'm taking things too easy right now, just floating along and not putting in the effort necessary to match this current cycle. I also interpret this card as going through a difficult transition often with help from others. Indeed, this is what I'm experiencing and it's a challenge to focus on work and material concerns. This card's placement next to the King of Pentacles reveals a directional cue of running away from or trying to escape from hard work.

Feeding the Meter: Ace of Pentacles. This shows that being out of sync with this cycle will impede future growth and manifestation. The King of Pentacles is the final card in the pentacles set. The Ace represents starting over in a new phase of growth. If I don't put in the hard work now, I won't be able to reap the benefits of this new phase.

Time Expired: Face Your Fears. To prepare for the next cycle, I must face my fears. This seems to resonate most with the escape aspect of the 6 of Swords. Perhaps there's something I'm running away from or am afraid to deal with directly. It looks like I'm going to have to face it head on in order to make a smooth transition into the next cycle.
In this follow up post, we're examining writing slant and the tarot cards that might reflect this symbolism.

Slant is an important variable in handwriting. It reflects emotional expression and how the writer faces life situations. This is an observation of outer personality rather than inner personality so it shows how the writer will be perceived by others, not necessarily how they feel inside.

There are three basic slants in handwriting: vertical, left, and right. The vertical slant doesn’t lean forward or backward. Upstrokes and downstrokes are more or less straight. These writers demonstrate a head-over-heart attitude. They are open to the experience of the moment but keep their emotions under control.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.66px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">

We can see this intellectual control depicted in cards like The Emperor, Justice, and the King of Swords whose characters face forward. When these cards appear in your readings, they are showing you there’s a need to take emotional control and get clarity and perspective on your situation.

In the left slant, the handwriting looks as if it’s reclined, leaning backward. These writers maintain even more emotional control, at least outwardly. However, they can be charming in social situations while still remaining emotionally aloof. What you’ll realize is that they never really share much of themselves in conversation. Nothing personal at least. It reflects a person who feels different from others.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.66px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">

We can see elements of aloofness and isolation in tarot cards like The Fool, The Hermit, and The World where the characters look and move toward the left. The Fool stands alone on a craggy hill, possibly about to take a leap. The Hermit secludes himself seeking knowledge and wisdom. The main character in The World lives in her own little bubble which is usually illustrated as a wreath encircling her.

Finally, the right slant looks as if it’s racing forward toward something. This slant is all about emotional expression and the farther right it leans, the more outwardly expressive the person is. This writer is who the phrase “TMI” (too much information) was made for. They tend to overshare their feelings and ideas and may be seen as impulsive. The limitation of this writer is that they can be swept up in spontaneous action and emotions without really seeing things clearly or thinking things through.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.66px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">

We can see this spontaneity and forward movement in cards like the 6 of Wands, the 10 of Wands, and the Knight of Cups. In the 6 of Wands, the main character is swept up by the energy of the crowd. In the 10 of Wands, the character is so caught up in his work that he can’t see where he’s going. And the Knight of Cups follows his emotions wherever they lead him.OTM Academyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02205725779073785992noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1299361714309297302.post-26628006028042729122016-09-22T15:00:00.000-04:002016-09-22T15:00:14.000-04:00tarot blog hop: autumn, haiku & tarot

Guess what?! I'm in another blog hop! This one is hosted by Sharron @gypsyarts on Instagram! We're making connections between tarot and the season of Autumn.

I've been exploring the symbolism of the seasons as I work with a new oracle deck creation, the Haiku Oracle. It's a deck that delivers readings in the form of divinatory poems based on the translated haiku of haiku master, Matsuo Basho. Each card contains part of a full haiku. When you combine the cards together in different ways or choose them randomly, you create a unique poem that reflects your current outlook and situation.

Haiku traditionally reference a season and seasons have specific symbols and moods. For instance, summer haiku includes symbols such as melons, coolness, and heat. Haiku referencing summer typically conveys a mood of play, laziness, enjoyment and laughter.

Autumn haiku, on the other hand, symbolically relates to letting go, endings, and passing time. This is seen in symbols such as falling leaves, cold night, sea, fog, and animal symbols like the owl and cicada. As a creative exercise, I chose cards from the Haiku Oracle face up to create a few Autumn-based
poems.

Next, I wondered if I could find tarot cards to match the poems I created. I looked through my Tarot Everywhere deck to find cards
that seemed to match or resonate with the poem.

Actually, I think this is a great exercise to try with any haiku or
poetry. Find a poem or haiku and then go through your tarot deck face up
to locate a tarot card that matches its mood or symbols.
You may get clarity or new insights on a few cards too. For instance, I hadn't associated the mood of boredom with this Page of Pentacles card until I decided to pair it with this poem.
This experiment provided a unique way to use the Haiku Oracle AND look at tarot in a new way!
